6 jours de croisière dans l'archipel des Daymaniyat, au large de Muscat, capitale du sultanat d'Oman. Croisière sur le Dyn, appartenant à Dune, un bateau assez ancien mais raisonnablement confortable et bien aménagé qui a d'abord navigué en Egypte, puis 3 ans à Djibouti, avant de se baser à Oman pour une nouvelle vie. Séjour organisé, pour ce qui me concerne, par Fun&Fly ; il s'agissait de la croisière annulée en avril pour cause de volcan islandais, reportée dernière semaine d'octobre. Vols Qatar Airways, une de mes compagnies préférées. Nous étions 18 (8 français et 10 suisses) sur un bateau qui peut accueillir 20 plongeurs. La chef de bord : Laurence -dite Lalo- très sympa et efficace a su faire fonctionner tout ça sans accroc, malgré quelques membres d'équipage qui manquaient visiblement de formation (!) ... |
A six day cruise in the Daymaniyat archipelago, just off the coast of Muscat, the capital of the sultanate of Oman. The liveaboard was named the Dyn, a ship belonging to the French dive operator Dune ; a vessel previously sailing in the Red sea, then 3 years in Djibouti, before starting a new life in Oman. This cruise was organized (at least for me) by a French TO, it was previously scheduled last April but was cancelled because of the eruption of the icelandic volcano and rescheduled late October. I flew with Qatar airways, one of my favorite airlines. We were a group of 18 divers (8 French and 10 Swiss) on a boat which can accomodate 20. The cruise director : Laurence -aka Lalo- was very nice and helpful and made everything run smoothly, in spite of a few crew members who obviouly needed a little more training (!) ... |

Les Daymaniyat sont un chapelet d'îles assez proches de la côte, offrant un paysage aride de roche ocre et de plages désertes. 16 plongées étaient proposées ; je n'en ai fait que 8 (Nitrox en panne et je ne plonge désormais plus qu'au Nitrox ; si je dois plonger à l'air, je ne fais qu'une plongée sur 2 !). Beaucoup de coraux durs en excellent état, quelques alcyonaires, pas de gorgones, peu ou pas d'éponges, beaucoup de poissons ; faune plutôt type océan indien que mer Rouge ; quelques espèces endémiques (faucon omanais, ...). Plongées faciles, peu profondes (le sable est souvent vers 25m) ; courant en général faible ou nul ; visi en revanche très moyenne. J'ai fait assez peu de photos ; j'en présente ici environ 80 ; macro et proxi prises au micro-Nikkor 60mm, ambiance au zoom 12~24 mm ; Nikon D300 en caisson Ikelite, deux flashes Ikelite DS 160 et DS125. |
The Daymaniyat archipelago is composed of a set of small islands, close to the coast, offering a very dry landscape : yellowish rocks and deserted beaches. 16 dives were proposed, I did only 8 (the Nitrox machine was out of order and I now only dive with Nitrox ; when divng with air I only do 1 dive out of 2 !). A lot of very healthy hard coral, a few soft coral, no gorgonian fans, very few if any sponges, a lot of fishes ; fauna more similar to what you get in the Indian ocean than in the Red sea ; a few endemic species (Omanese hawkfish, ...). Very easy dives, quite shallow (the sand is seldom deeper than 25m) ; very little or no current most of the time but visibility was rather bad. I didn't shoot many pictures : I present here around 80 : macro and close-up, shot with the 60mm micro-Nikkor lens, wide-angle with the 12~24 zoom lens ; Nikon D300 in an Ikelite housing, two strobes Ikelite DS160 and DS125.
