Voyage de 3 semaines en Papouasie Nouvelle Guinée : une semaine de plongée à la Plantation Walindi (Kimbe Bay) et circuit "aventure" dans les Highlands et la région de la rivière Sepik. Voyage organisé pour partie en direct (vols internationaux) et pour partie avec Ultramarina (correspondant sur place : Trans Niugini Tours, la seule structure fiable là-bas !). La Papouasie, c'est loin et ça se mérite ! Vols Air Niugini souvent en retard quand ils ne sont pas annulés, bref il faut être zen, sinon, on peut s'énerver vite devant les lenteurs, les ratés, mais c'est inutile, ça ne change rien ... Voyage au total un peu décevant : je suis heureux d'y avoir été, mais je n'y retournerai probablement pas. Sur Kimbe Bay, hôtel simple mais très correct (sauf la nourriture, vraiment médiocre) ; plongées assez peu variées et visibilité médiocre, sauf sur quelques sites lointains (plus d'une heure de bateau). Les coraux sont certes en excellent état, mais je m'attendais à une faune plus riche, plus variée, plus abondante aussi. Il avait beaucoup plu avant notre arrivée et seuls les sites lointains présentaient une visi correcte ; tous les sites proches étaient très décevants ... Dans ces conditions on a refait deux voire trois fois nos sites préférés : Inglis shoals et Susan reef, probablement les deux plus intéressants que nous ayons faits. |
A 3 week trip to Papua New Guinea : one week dedicated to diving in Kimbe Bay (Walindi Plantation), and an "adventure tour" in the Highlands and the Sepik river area. This trip was organized with a French Tour Operator, working in PNG with Trans Niugini Tours, the only reliable structure there ! PNG is remote and going there is quite an adventure "per se" ! Air Niugini flights are almost always late if not cancelled. Your "zen attitude" will be tested more than once ; it's easy to get edgy and even quite angry ; don't, it's useless ... All in all, this trip was a little disappointing : I'm quite happy ta have been there, but I don't think I'll do it again. In Kimbe, the hotel was simple, but quite OK (except for the food, very poor) ; the dive sites were not very varied and the visibility rather poor, except for a few quite distant sites (more than 1hour boat ride). Coral was very healthy, but I expected a much more abundant, more varied fauna. They had some very heavy rain the week before we came, and only the most remote sites had quite clear water ; all the sites near the resort were very disappointing ... That's why we dove twice, even 3 times the sites we liked best ; especially two of them : Inglis shoals and Susan's reef, the most interesting sites in our opinion. |
