SABAH - Sipadan, Mabul (May 2006)

Court voyage de 8 jours, dont 6 de plongée effective au Sabah, état malais du nord de Bornéo (voir carte ci-dessous).

Voyage organisé avec le concours de Cocorico en France et Borneo Divers sur place : excellente prestation à tous points de vue !

Nous étions un groupe de 19, dont 18 plongeurs, répartis sur deux bateaux. 2 DM nous accompagnaient sur chacun des bateaux et guidaient les plongées.

Au programme, 2 plongées chaque matin sur Sipadan, île aux tombants vertigineux : royaume du bleu et des gorgones colorées ; 2 plongées l'après-midi sur Mabul ou Kapalai. Une 5ème plongée optionnelle, de nuit, était proposée chaque jour. On pouvait donc au total effectuer jusqu'à 30 plongées en 6 jours (!)

Je me suis contenté de 18, ayant besoin de temps pour décharger mes photos et faire un premier tri au fur et à mesure. Ce voyage a en effet marqué pour moi un tournant : le passage au réflex numérique. J'essayais pour la première fois mon Nikon D70 sous l'eau.

Matériel utilisé : caisson Ikelite TTL, 1 seul flash : Ikelite DS125 et deux optiques : le Fish-eye Nikkor DX f/2,8 10,5mm G ED pour l'ambiance et le micro-Nikkor f/2,8 60mm pour la macro et la proxi.

J'ai rapporté environ 250 photos, voici quelques unes des meilleures ...

Short stay : 8 days - 6 days of diving -  in Sabah, one of the two Malaysian states located on the north coast of the island of Borneo (see map below).

This trip was organised with a French TO (Cocorico) and a local operator : Borneo Divers : excellent organization !

We were a group of 19, 18 divers and 1 non-diver. We were assigned to 2 boats (9 divers per boat) ; 2 DM  guided the dives on each boat.

Our program : 2 dives around Sipadan every morning. Sipadan island, with its impressive drop-offs, is the realm of the blue and of colourful gorgoniann fans ; 2 dives every afternoon around Mabul or Kapalai. A fifth dive , a night dive(optionnal), was proposed every day. One could do as much as 30 dives in the week (!)

I only did 18, as I needed time to unload my photographs to my PC and make a first selection every day. This trip was a watershed in my underwater photopgrapher life as I switched to a digital SLR.  For the first time,  I was trying to use my D70 underwater.

Housing : Ikelite TTL, only one substrobe : Ikelite DS125, two lenses : Fish-eye Nikkor DX f/2,8 10,5mm G ED for wide-angle shots and  micro-Nikkor f/2,8 60mm for macro and proxi.

I shot some 250 pictures, here is a selected "best of" ...
